Types of arthritis
Arthritis, which refers to around 200 rheumatic diseases and conditions is
the swelling and tenderness of one or more of the joints. However,
osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the most common types of arthritis.
It is a condition typically worsen with age that causes several symptoms and
impairs a person’s ability of his daily tasks. Some of these symptoms include
joint pain and stiffness. This disease is developed due to many factors, for
example, previous injury, infection, one’s genetic make-up, and abnormal metabolism.
Immune system dysfunction is another essential factor. Due to the different
types of arthritis, which have different causes, the treatment methods vary,
including medications, physical therapies, and education along with the support of
the patient and his family. Therefore, the treatment plan aims to control pain,
minimize joint damage, and improve the quality of the patient’s life. Physical therapy involves exercises that help
strengthen the muscles around the affected joint, thus, make the joints
flexible. Overexertion exercises should be avoided; however, one of the best
exercises for the arthritis patient is swimming, for it supports 90% of the
body weight. Thus, it makes movement painless and reduces any stress on the
joints.
Osteoarthritis, or OA, causes the joint’s cartilage, which is a firm but flexible connective tissue that covers the ends of the bones, where the joint is formed, to wear-and-tear. Although the cartilage cushions the ends of the bones, enough damage results in bone grinding. It causes inflammation of the joint lining. This type of arthritis occurs due to aging, but a join injury or infection can be hastened.

Rheumatoid arthritis, also called as RA, is a
disease, in which the immune system attacks the joints, beginning with the
lining of joints. If RA processes, it can eventually destroy the cartilage and
bone within the joint.
